What I do
Consultation, professional learning, and collaboration
I offer private consultation on visual impairment, assistive technology, educational access, and policy. This work draws on more than a decade of working directly with learners with visual impairments.

Looking for help with a child with CVI?
My clinical and educational work with individual learners with CVI is provided through Pediatric VIEW at The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh. Please contact me there for information about CVI evaluations, consultation, intervention planning, and related services.
Can this learner actually get to the material?
Visual impairment & braille consultation
I consult with families and teams on braille literacy, accessible instructional materials, and assistive technology for learners who are blind or have low vision.
We can look at whether the student can access the materials and instruction, and where changes are needed.

Does the technology fit the task?
Assistive technology consultation
Evaluation and consultation related to technology access for learners with visual impairment.
I work with teams to consider how the technology, task, and environment affect a learner’s access.
Understanding barriers to learning
Disability advocacy & educational access
Consultation with families, professionals, and other partners around barriers affecting the education of learners with visual impairment.
I can help you review evaluations and records, identify access concerns, and prepare questions for the educational team. We can also consider accommodations, assistive technology, and how inaccessible instruction may affect a learner’s performance.

Why does the same problem keep reappearing?
Educational policy & systems-level work
My consultation and research address special education, disability policy, and access to services for learners with visual impairments.
I am especially interested in the point where individual access problems reveal larger problems in policy or practice.
Professional learning for your team
Professional development & speaking
Customized professional learning for schools, agencies, universities, professional organizations, and interdisciplinary teams.
I’m available for conference presentations, keynotes, workshops, webinars, and invited lectures.

Research, writing & collaboration
My published research covers braille instruction and communication using tangible symbols.
I work with collaborators on research, professional writing, and teaching resources. These projects may bring research into practice or inform changes to policy and services.
My work with individual learners with CVI is through Pediatric VIEW.
